A Tanzania safari is a guided wildlife trip through the country’s national parks, almost always in a private 4×4 with a driver-guide. Most travelers spend six to ten days on the northern circuit — Tarangire, the Serengeti and the Ngorongoro Crater — and pay between $450 and $1,500 per person per day depending on accommodation. The dry season from June to October gives the strongest game viewing; January to March is calving season in the southern Serengeti. Flights arrive at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO), an hour from our base in Arusha.

How much does a Tanzania Safari Cost?
Tanzania safari cost is driven by three things: your accommodation level (Luxury, Mid-range or Budget Camping), the number of parks you visit and your group size. Government park fees alone run $59 to $83 per person per day, and the Ngorongoro Crater adds a $300 vehicle descent fee — charges every honest operator has to pass on.
Best time to visit Tanzania, month by month
There is no bad month for a Tanzania safari — only different trade-offs between wildlife density, crowds and price. Here is what each part of the year looks like on the ground.
| Months | Rating | What to expect |
|---|---|---|
| January – March | Excellent | Calving season in the southern Serengeti; heavy predator action, green plains. |
| April – May | Budget | Long rains. Lowest prices and almost no vehicles, but some camps close. |
| June – July | Excellent | Dry season starts. Herds move north-west; excellent all-round game viewing. |
| August – October | Peak | Mara River crossings in the northern Serengeti. Peak season — book early. |
| November | Good | Short rains, brief showers only. Good value and fresh landscapes. |
| December | Good | Herds return south. Festive season prices in the best camps. |
