A Tanzania safari is a guided wildlife trip through the country’s national parks, almost always in a private 4×4 with a driver-guide. Most travelers spend six to ten days on the northern circuit — Tarangire, the Serengeti and the Ngorongoro Crater — and pay between $450 and $1,500 per person per day depending on accommodation. The dry season from June to October gives the strongest game viewing; January to March is calving season in the southern Serengeti. Flights arrive at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO), an hour from our base in Arusha.

2026-2027 TANZANIA SAFARI COST guide

How much does a Tanzania Safari Cost?

Tanzania safari cost is driven by three things: your accommodation level (Luxury, Mid-range or Budget Camping), the number of parks you visit and your group size. Government park fees alone run $59 to $83 per person per day, and the Ngorongoro Crater adds a $300 vehicle descent fee — charges every honest operator has to pass on.

Yes, many travelers combine a safari with a Zanzibar beach holiday for a complete Tanzania experience.

The best time for a Tanzania safari is from June to October during the dry season, when wildlife viewing is at its peak and witness the Great Migration in the Serengeti. Also, December to March during Calving Season.

Both. Mid-range and luxury safaris are private, with your own 4×4 and guide. Camping and budget safaris can be joined as small group departures to keep costs down.

Most visitors, including US citizens, need a tourist visa, which can be obtained online or on arrival. A yellow fever certificate is required only if you are arriving from a country with a risk of transmission. Check current requirements with your embassy before travel.

Every package includes park entry and crater fees, a private 4×4 Land Cruiser with a professional guide, accommodation, all meals on safari, drinking water and airport transfers. International flights, visas, travel insurance, drinks and tips are not included.

Book three to twelve months ahead for travel between July and October or over Christmas, when lodges in the Serengeti and around the Ngorongoro Crater sell out. For the April to May green season, three months is usually enough.
