Tarangire is one of Tanzania’s hidden safari gems and is renowned for its large elephant populations, ancient baobab trees, and diverse wildlife. The park’s landscape of golden savannah, seasonal swamps, and river valleys attracts animals year-round.

Upon arrival, you will begin an exciting 5–6 hour game drive, giving you excellent opportunities to spot:

  • Elephants moving in large family groups
  • Lions resting in the shade
  • Graceful giraffes browsing acacia trees
  • Zebras and wildebeest grazing across the plains
  • Numerous bird species and other wildlife

A scenic picnic lunch will be enjoyed inside the park while surrounded by the beauty of the African wilderness.

In the late afternoon, you will leave Tarangire and drive toward the Ngorongoro Highlands, where cooler temperatures and lush scenery await. Your overnight stay will be at the elegant Melia Ngorongoro Lodge, located near the crater rim and offering spectacular views.

After an early breakfast at Melia Ngorongoro Lodge, you will descend into the legendary Ngorongoro Crater for an unforgettable safari experience.

The drive to the crater entrance takes approximately 1.5 hours (60 km), followed by a scenic descent of over 600 meters into the crater floor.

Often referred to as “Africa’s Garden of Eden,” the Ngorongoro Crater is the world’s largest intact volcanic caldera and supports one of the highest densities of wildlife in Africa.

During your 4–5 hour game drive, you may encounter:

  • Lions, often seen resting on the crater floor
  • Black rhinos, one of the rarest animals in Africa
  • Large herds of buffalo and zebras
  • Hippos relaxing in freshwater pools
  • Flamingos lining the shores of Lake Magadi
  • Possible sightings of the elusive leopard

A picnic lunch inside the crater allows you to enjoy the incredible scenery while surrounded by wildlife.

Beyond its wildlife, the Ngorongoro area is also home to the Maasai people, who have lived alongside wildlife for generations while maintaining their traditional pastoral lifestyle.

In the afternoon, you will ascend from the crater and begin the scenic drive back to Arusha, arriving with unforgettable memories of your Tanzania safari adventure.
